I would like to share my experience as a parent regarding @Srishti's participation in TN State Gymnastics Meet, in the context of deliberate practice. Srishti had been practicing day in and day out for nearly 5 hours of intense training every day. As a parent, we support her by driving her to class which is 15 kms away from home. So, driving 60 km everyday is a bit of a stretch. While waiting in her class, I take videos of her training wherever required and then she sees them after the class gets over. This helps her in making corrections and improvements in her practice. Apart from that I also make my observations and give her feedback. Though I am not trained in gymnastics, been watching her class, been listening to coach's feedback and watching youtube videos of various performances by top gymnasts. So, I am able to give her some constructive feedback. But, I leave it to her discretion, because I might be wrong at times. Also, before every class we discuss about two points -...

Srishti's event was on Saturday and she performed remarkably well on all the 4 apparatus. There has been a big improvement in her performance. On Sunday, the results were posted outside the gymnastics hall. Srishti was placed second in Beam apparatus and in all round (overall score). The all round score is calculated by adding up her scores in all 4 apparatus. We expected her to either be first or second in Beam and we were not even thinking about overall score. I was almost into tears when I saw that she was overall second. Its a huge thing. I was very excited. Srishti also expressed her happiness after seeing the results. But, her coach already told parents not to go by the scores displayed outside, and to wait for the medal ceremony to know the results, because he suspected something wrong in the display.
